LANSING – The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has released a grant funding opportunity (GFO) to identify and fund eligible entities to provide comprehensive preventive screening focused on early detection of occupational diseases to firefighters through mobile, on-site or local clinic-based services.
Firefighters are at increased risk of many health conditions due to the dangerous exposures they face during their jobs. This funding is intended to prevent disease and prolong life by providing convenient, comprehensive preventive health screenings and telemedicine follow-up to active, full-time Michigan firefighters.
Eligible applicants include nonprofits, private and public entities, local health departments, federally recognized tribes, a group of federally recognized Michigan tribes, an urban Indian health clinic program, and universities.
A total of $3.5 million is available over three years. MDHHS anticipates issuing two awards.
A pre-application conference will be held on Friday, March 13 at 10:30 a.m. and will last approximately 90 minutes. At this conference, MDHHS will provide information about the grant program and instructions for using the EGRAMS system. The conference can be viewed at https://bit.ly/47b4Gvj
Requests to the Project Director for access to the application are to be submitted by 5pm, Thursday, April 2. Applications for the MI Firefighter Preventive Health Screening GFO must be submitted electronically through the eGRAMS program by 3 p.m., Thursday, April 9.
