More than half of Britons want to completely change the way they live their lives by improving their health and wellbeing, spending more time outside and reducing screen time. A survey of 2,000 adults revealed that of the 51% who wanted to make a change, saving money, eating healthy and appreciating the little things were among the top ways to do so.
Bored Britons want to start exercising more often, move house and even learn a language, but others just want to slow down and spend more time reading. Despite the desire for change, 38% admitted that they found it difficult to make changes to their daily routines and have turned to their European neighbors for inspiration. Of all European countries, Britons would most like to adopt aspects of the Italian lifestyle (24%), followed by Spain (19%) and France (14%).

A spokesperson for Italian drinks brand Disaronno, which commissioned the research, said: “The ‘dolce vita’ lifestyle is hard to beat. It’s interesting to see how open people are to making changes to their daily lives and adopting different characteristics from other countries.
“Whether it’s changing their exercise regime, financial habits or the way they shop, small lifestyle changes can have a big impact on our mood, confidence and relationships.”
The research also found that the top reasons for wanting to adopt aspects of the European lifestyle were better weather (42%), a slower lifestyle (40%) and more time outdoors (38%).
Others are looking for more time dedicated to family (32%), friends (14%) and a variety of food options (32%), taking inspiration from countries outside the UK.
Similarly, 67% would like to live a ‘dolce vita’ lifestyle and associate the phrase with the best things in life (28%) and Italian culture (26%).
Instead, 62% think they currently spend too much of their time looking at screens, while 12% want to make changes to their lifestyle to cut down on it.

“Italian culture – from which many Britons are keen to take some inspiration – prioritizes family, treats food as a ritual and encourages simple pleasures without guilt.
“Although we don’t have beautiful European weather, we can embrace the pleasant side of life. Deliberately slowing down is an Italian value and we can learn from this, as well as live a ‘good life’ full of joy and indulgence.”
