Roco Public Health encourages residents to ‘discover the power of nutrition’

The Rowan County Public Health Department is recognizing National Nutrition Month (March) by encouraging community members to “Discover the Power of Nutrition.”
This year’s theme highlights “the vital role of nutrition in supporting physical health, mental well-being, disease prevention and long-term quality of life,” the department said in a release.
Those efforts directly support the 2025 Community Health Needs Assessment, in which “healthy lifestyles”, including nutrition, physical activity and access to care, was identified as one of Rowan County’s priority health areas. National Nutrition Month provides an opportunity to advance this priority by promoting practical tools and resources that help residents form healthy habits and improve overall well-being.
Throughout March, the department will share information and highlight simple actions individuals and families can take to strengthen their nutrition habits. Emphasis will be placed on increasing access to healthy foods, promoting balanced eating, and encouraging daily choices that support long-term health.
Supporting healthy habits throughout the community
National Nutrition Month encourages residents to reflect on their eating patterns and consider small, sustainable changes that align with the county’s healthy lifestyle goals, such as:
• Creating balanced meals using different food groups
• Drinking water as the main beverage.
• Plan meals and snacks to avoid last minute less nutritious options
• Reducing added sugar and sodium
• Discovering new foods, flavors and healthy cooking methods
Overview of National Nutrition Month Activities
To support this effort, Rowan County Public Health will promote nutrition awareness through a variety of community and digital activities, including:
• Youth Literacy and Nutrition Partnership
• Nutrition Month Digital Toolkit
• Lifestyle medicine resources for child health patients at RCPH
• Social media campaigns
Those activities are designed to increase community knowledge, reinforce positive nutrition behaviors, and support partners and families in creating healthy environments.
A shared commitment to community health
The Rowan County Public Health Department is committed to advancing the healthy lifestyle priorities identified in the 2025 Community Health Needs Assessment. By expanding nutrition education, strengthening partnerships and promoting accessible resources, the department aims to help all residents make informed choices that contribute to a healthy future.
