People experiencing homelessness deserve access to health care.
And that’s why a new effort for the homeless launched by Project Hope is an excellent idea.
The organization recently announced a new partnership with registered nurse LaToya Huddleston to expand health and wellness services to approximately 400 guests annually. According to a News-Herald staff report.
Project Hope for the Homeless said in a news release that this new initiative strengthens the Pennsville Township-based shelter’s commitment to meeting the needs of the community as a whole by increasing access to basic health care guidance and connecting individuals to local medical and social service resources.
Through this partnership, nurses will assist with needs that include:
• Basic health checkup, wellness assessment and nursing triage
• Blood pressure monitoring, vital signs checking and weight management assistance
• Referrals to primary care providers, mental health services, addiction recovery programs and other community health resources
Judy Burr, executive director of the shelter, said in the release, “With the growing number of shelter guests age 62 (and older), it is important that we offer this outreach and coordination of health care… We are grateful to partner with LaToya Huddleston, RN Consultant. Many lives will be saved.”
The News-Herald commends Project Hope for the Homeless and Huddleston for supporting this extremely worthwhile program.
