Remember when Proactive only treated pimples? These days, they have expanded their range to tackle other problems related to acne-prone skin, such as dehydration and dark spots that are left behind after they heal. Here, I will give you the review of Proactive Dark Spot Serum, i.e. Proactive Post Blemish 10% Vitamin C Serum. Find out if it really gives the best results for uneven skin tone… or if it’s a miss. Let’s dive in!

Key Ingredients in Proactive Post Blemish 10% Vitamin C Serum: What Does It Do?

    3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid

3-O-Ethyl ascorbic acid is a stable derivative of vitamin C that does not oxidize and turns orange in the bottle after five minutes. It is soluble in both water and oil, which theoretically helps it penetrate the skin better than plain L-ascorbic acid. Once inside, it is converted to ascorbic acid, so your skin uses it the same way it uses regular vitamin C.

What happens from this? Here are the benefits of Vitamin C you need to know:

How does it compare to L-ascorbic acid (pure form)? It’s not favorable if we’re being honest. Research shows that 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid can neutralize only half the free radicals that the same concentration of L-ascorbic acid can. And while L-ascorbic acid has decades of solid human studies behind it, most of the evidence for 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid comes from cell cultures and small trials.

    Performance and personal opinion

The texture is very watery, thin and liquid, spreads easily, gets absorbed fast without leaving sticky residue. It may be a little tricky if you use too much or rush the next step, but 4-5 drops and a little patience and it’s fine. No smell at all, which is exactly what you want from something you put on acne-prone skin every morning. You apply it using a dropper to your entire face (except the eye area) after cleansing, before moisturizer and sunscreen SPF. The dropper is a bit crooked. It doesn’t always cooperate, and once the bottle gets low you’re basically playing games with gravity to get the last bit out.

The instant glow is real: skin looks brighter and more radiant immediately after application. But for actual dark spots and dark marks from acne? It is slow. The vitamin C used here is 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid, a stable derivative that is lighter and more stable than regular vitamin C but takes longer to work. But one bottle is not enough to reduce the appearance of dark spots (or age spots for that matter). For your information, since we are reviewing it, it does not remove dead skin cells, heal acne or do much for rough textures.

Does Proactive Post Blemish 10% Vitamin C Serum Live Up To Its Claims?

    Claim Truth?
Specially formulated for acne-prone skin, this serum helps reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation, visibly refine and brighten your complexion, and protect your skin from environmental stressors. Truth. It may reduce the appearance of dark marks, but it is slow.
Fast-Absorbing: A lightweight, non-greasy serum that absorbs quickly without leaving any residue. Truth.

    Verdict: Should you buy it?

One advantage of this lightweight vitamin C serum is stability. L-ascorbic acid requires a pH below 3.5 to properly penetrate the skin, and it is this acidity that irritates many people. 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid eliminates that problem completely. So if your skin tolerates L-ascorbic acid, go for it. It is still the gold standard. But if low-pH vitamin C serums irritate your skin, 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid is a reasonable alternative. Just know that you’re making compromises: more stability, less power. (This also applies if you have dry or sensitive skin).

Water, 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, Butylene Glycol, Ethoxydiglycol, Sodium Citrate, Polysorbate 20, Citric Acid, Pentylene Glycol, Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6, Propanediol, Glycerine, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tocopherol, Sodium Metabisulfite, Glycyrrhiza Glabra. (Licorice) Root Extract, Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate, Phenoxyethanol, Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Benzoate, Centella Asiatica Extract
