Parkersburg, W.Va. (WTAP) – The MOV Fitness Expo comes to the Wood County Resiliency Center this weekend, connecting Mid-Ohio Valley residents with fitness, health and wellness resources.
Organizers said the expo brought together local gyms, trainers and wellness vendors, as well as nutrition and supplement booths, health screenings, expert advice and live demonstrations and guest speakers.
Event organizer Liz Strong said the goal was to raise awareness of local resources that people might not know were available.
“To create awareness of what we have,” Strong said. “There are a lot of things people don’t know about that you can do here locally to help us learn more about our bodies, learn how we can become healthier and fitter and feel better about ourselves.”
Deanna Schuler of Memorial Health System said the expo helped showcase the services available through the health system.
“We wanted to take the opportunity to showcase some of the services we have for the fitness and wellness community,” Schuler said. “We have some things featured here for our physical therapy department as well as our wellness department.”
Strong said this event can be especially helpful for people who are just starting their health and fitness journey.
“It’s so important for people to see these resources as people who are just entering the health and fitness journey of their lives,” Strong said. “It’s a good way for them to come and see what’s available to them locally so they know what gyms are in the area, what nutrition options they have.”
Sidney Weber of the Wood County Resiliency Center said prioritizing health can impact every part of life.
“Your health is at the center of everything you do,” Weber said. “It’s important to make it a priority. It’s important to make time to work out, eat healthy, you know, find that community here in the fitness world as well.”
Schuler said small, consistent changes can help people form healthy habits.
“Eat a little bit every day, get a little activity in, get a few extra vegetables every day,” Schuler said. “Just small steps, but doing it consistently is the best way to get into a healthy routine.”
