What is the best Korean skin care for pores and blackheads? A quick online search will uncover amazing products – from cleansers to moisturizers and face masks – that can minimize pores and get rid of blackheads. But… most of them don’t actually work. Not for this anyway. There are only a few ingredients that can treat these concerns. In this article, I will tell you about the active ingredients you need to include in your Korean skin care routine and recommend you the best products for the job. let’s get started:
What causes large pores and blackheads?
Large pores and blackheads are two different skin concerns, but they have a common cause: clogged pores. The size of your pores is genetically determined, so you can’t make them smaller. Annoying I know. But, when your sebaceous glands become overactive and increase oil production, excess sebum gets trapped in the pores, where it mixes with dead skin cells and clogs the pores. These blockages now cause the pores to swell, making them appear larger. Furthermore, when those blockages become so large that they reach the opening of the pore, their ends turn back. Hello blackheads!
What Really Works to Minimize Pores and Clear Blackheads?
Therefore it follows that If you unclog the pores, you can get rid of blackheads and get your pores back to their original size. The only ingredient that can do this is salicylic acid. It is also known as BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid). This oil-soluble exfoliant penetrates your pores and unclogs them from within. Additionally, it also removes dead cells from the surface of your skin, so that they do not settle into your pores and clog them again.
However, here’s the problem with Korean skin care: A lot of Korean toners don’t use salicylic acid. They use derivatives that don’t really work that well. Or less than the concentration of salicylic acid found in Western toners. So, you’ll get some gentle exfoliation, but they won’t work for your pores and blackheads as much as western toners will. This is just a fact. If you agree with this, here are the best products you can add to your Korean skin care routine:

How to prevent clogged pores in the first place?
There are two types of ingredients that prevent clogged pores: ingredients that remove dead cells from your skin and ingredients that regulate oil production. Let’s take a closer look at them:
- Ingredients that provide gentle exfoliation or speed up cellular turnover (the skin’s natural exfoliation process), such as alpha hydroxy acids (think glycolic acid and lactic acid) and retinoids. Can prevent blackheads and minimize the appearance of pores by preventing dead cells from clogging in the first place. And, if you’re using salicylic acid, you don’t need any other exfoliant. You may still want to add retinoids to your routine for anti-aging, but everything else? No. No need. Using two or more exfoliants in your skin care routine will not help with clogged pores. It’s just going to irritate your skin.
- Cleansers (including double cleansing) can only remove excess oil from the skin, Which helps in preventing clogged pores. But they don’t do anything to remove the ones you already have.
- Niacinamide. It inhibits the activity of the enzyme 5α-reductase.Which converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone that stimulates sebum production. Less DHT → less oil → smaller pores and less blackheads.
- Clay Masks: These also remove excess oil so that it does not get trapped in your pores and clog them. However, these may be drying for dry skin and sensitive skin.

Best Korean Skin Care Products to Reduce the Appearance of Pores and Treat Blackheads
Benton Aloe BHA Skin Toner ($17.10)
This gentle toner contains 0.5% salicylic acid. This is actually the highest concentration allowed in Korean products and… it’s extremely gentle. This will do something to clear up the pores, making them look smaller. It will also help you in removing blackheads. But, it works very slowly. If you agree, you’ll love the lightweight texture that absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy residue. It works without peeling or irritating the skin. Plus, the addition of aloe and snail mucin means it hydrates the skin and makes it soft and smooth without adding too much oil, which is the last thing oily skin (the type that’s more likely to have large pores and blackheads) needs. I don’t usually recommend daily use of an exfoliant, but it’s gentle enough that you may need it for faster results (unless your skin is sensitive – it will backfire).
Available: sokoglam, stylevanaAnd yes style
Main Ingredients: Aloe Vera, Salicylic Acid, Snail Secretion Filtrate (Snail Mucin).
benefits: Soothes, hydrates, and gently exfoliates.
Shortcoming: If you want hard exfoliation, subtle results on acne or texture.
Skin Type: Sensitive, dry, normal, combination skin.
fragrance free: Yes.
Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Refreshing Toner ($19.25)
This refreshing toner has a watery, slightly sticky texture that absorbs quickly. The sticky bit disappears pretty quickly, but you will feel it at first. Just mentioning it if it bothers you. It contains a low concentration of salicylic acid to unclog the pores and a large concentration of glycolic acid to remove dead cells from your skin surface and give you smooth skin texture and glassy skin glow. This is more of a toner for dry skin, which has some blackheads, than oily, acne-prone skin that deals with breakouts on a daily basis.
Available: beauty bay, SuperdrugAnd yes style
active ingredients: Glycolic Acid and Salicylic Acid.
benefits: Brightens skin, hydrates and helps unclog pores.
Shortcoming: I wish it had a higher concentration of exfoliating acids.
Skin Type: All skin types are sensitive.
fragrance free: Yes.
Naturium BHA Liquid Exfoliant 2% ($19.00)
This is my favorite exfoliant on this list. It contains 2% actual salicylic acid which is a solid concentration: enough to really do something for acne-prone skin and clogged pores without disrupting the healthy skin barrier. It’s a liquid so you can control how much you’re using, and it absorbs fast without feeling sticky. Good for oily skin that produces a lot of oil. There isn’t much to say about it. It’s a great formula that can rival western toners and does exactly what it says on the tin. And this is what you want.
Available: boots, soko glam, spacenk And ULTA
active ingredients: salicylic acid.
benefits: Exfoliates the skin and unclogs the pores.
Shortcoming: It may cause skin irritation if you misuse it.
Skin Type: Oily, acne-prone and combination skin.
fragrance free: Yes.
Something by Mi Retinol Intense Reactivating Serum ($31.79)
The stars of the show are 0.1% retinol, its cousins retinal and niacinamide. While retinoids speed up cellular turnover, niacinamide regulates the skin’s natural oil production. Together, they fight wrinkles, minimize pores and help prevent blackheads. The texture is slightly sticky, spreads easily, and sits somewhere between a serum and a light lotion. It’s silicone-based, which isn’t everyone’s favorite. It comes housed in a glass bottle with a dropper, which looks pretty but isn’t ideal for retinol consistency. Keep it away from light and heat. Results come slowly: Expect 6+ weeks before results start to be seen.
Available: soko glam, spacenk, stylevana, ULTAAnd yes style
Main Ingredients: Retinol 0.1%, Retinal, Bakuchiol 0.5%, Niacinamide and Centella Asiatica Extract.
benefits: Gentle retinoid suitable for beginners; Anti-aging benefits; Helps lighten dark spots; Youthful glow.
Shortcoming: Silicone base can cause pilling; Glass dropper packaging is not ideal for retinol stability.
Skin Type: All skin types including sensitive. Retinol works well for beginners.
fragrance free: Yes
IOPE Expert Retinol Super Bounce Serum ($49.00)
IOPE contains both retinol and GranActive retinoids, two forms of vitamin A that speed up cellular turnover, fight wrinkles and help treat acne. Plus, Squalane and Centella Asiatica to moisturize and soothe skin. This matters because if you use retinoids too much it can disrupt your skin’s natural barrier. Anything that helps counter this is welcome. The texture is where this serum really impresses: a light, silky gel-water that melts instantly into the skin with zero stickiness and zero greasy finish. You can expect noticeable improvements in skin firmness, texture and pore appearance with consistent use. For a retinol serum marketed as beginner-friendly, it really does deliver results — although some people with very reactive skin still experience mild redness with more than twice-weekly use.
Available: soko glam And yes style
Main Ingredients: Retinol and hydroxypinacolone retinoate (GranActive Retinoid).
benefits: Multi-Retinoid Complex for Anti-Aging; Improved firmness, texture and pore refinement; Lightweight, fast-absorbing texture; Well tolerated for a retinol product.
Shortcoming: premium price; Contains synthetic fragrance.
Skin Type: All skin types including sensitive. Suitable for retinol beginners and those who want a meaningful retinol concentration without the risk of excessive irritation.
fragrance free: No (contains less than 1% synthetic fragrance)
bottom line
There you have it, perfect Korean beauty products that can really do something for pores and blackheads. By all means, include gentle cleansing, clay masks, and anything else your skin needs. But for pores and blackheads, it really works. Duration.
